When using color replacement techniques, an image is selected and sectioned out into masks, where color is later applied, as well as adding adjustment layers to create highlights, saturation, and contrast, to key areas delivering emphasis within the piece. The first image to the left is a black and white image, whilst the second image to the right is edited to be seen as a realistic portrait which carries very natural and expected tonal variations specific to the models ethnicity and appearance, with warm and cooler colors to compliment and contrast one another.
